SUPPORTING UN GLOBAL COMPACT
The United Nations Global Compact is a volunteer membership organization, non-binding United Nations pact to encourage businesses and firms worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on their implementation.
The UN Global Compact is a principle-based framework for businesses, stating ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. Under the Global Compact, companies are brought together with UN agencies, labour groups and civil society. Cities can join the Global Compact through the Cities Programme.
The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability (a.k.a. corporate social responsibility) initiative with 13000 corporate participants and other stakeholders over 170 countries.
AIMS supports the philosophy of the UN Global Compact. AIMS inspires its candidates to find synergy in their personal and professional capacity to integrate the 17 SDGs goals in their company’s Vision and Mission towards the convergence of the sustainable development goals in their communities.
Of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted in 2015, SDG4 is dedicated to Education. Higher Education is mentioned in target 4.3 of SDG4 which aims to “By 2030, ensure equal access for all Women and Men to Affordable and Quality Technical, Vocational and Tertiary Education, including University.”
Higher Education also forms an important part of other goals related to Poverty (SDG1); Health and Well-being (SDG3); Gender Equality (SDG5) Governance; Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG8); Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG12); Climate Change (SDG13); and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG16).
